A Series of Misfortunes
Evans entered the Sanya E-Prix with a 19-point championship lead, but a crash with Dan Ticktum left him without points. The damage to his Jaguar was significant, and it set the tone for a challenging period.
The Shanghai races were no better. Starting second in the opening race, Evans' car reportedly suffered from a grip issue, causing him to drop to eighth. Pascal Wehrlein's victory further narrowed Evans' lead, leaving him with just three points advantage.
The second race in Shanghai was even more disappointing. Evans struggled in wet qualifying and failed to start the race due to a suspected DC/DC issue. Wehrlein's fourth-place finish meant he seized a nine-point lead in the championship, leaving Evans in second place.
A Difficult Venue
The Japanese capital, Tokyo, has been a challenging venue for Evans and Jaguar. Since joining the calendar in 2024, Evans has finished 15th, and last season, he failed to finish either race. The team's struggles in Tokyo are well-documented, and Evans is aware of the challenges ahead.
However, Evans remains optimistic. He believes that the later timing of the event and the night race format could work in their favor. He says, "I think we're in a better window now, so I've got a bit of hope." Despite the recent setbacks, Evans is determined to turn his fortunes around and get his title challenge back on track.
Reset and Business as Usual
Evans acknowledges that preparation changes might not be necessary, stating, "I don't think we really need to change anything." He believes the team has been performing well, except for the wet conditions in Shanghai. Evans plans to reset and focus on the usual preparation for Tokyo, hoping to find more performance and improve their results.
As the season progresses, Evans and Jaguar will need to overcome their challenges in Tokyo and regain their momentum. With four races remaining, the title race is far from over, and Evans is determined to give it his all.
