Does taking TruZen CBD regularly improve the quality of sleep?

My mind feels like it never goes out. So much so that I will wake up fully around 3 a.m. with thoughts of what to expect for the next day. Looking for a solid night’s sleep, I was intrigued by the possibility that CBD could give me a full night (or more) of rest.

Just as fall officially arrived, wellness brand TruZen gave me their 10-day ($ 13) trial of CBD capsules to try. The capsules contain 25 mg of CBD, which is within the average dose range (25 mg to 175 mg) given to people looking to improve their quality of sleep.

Read on to find out how taking CBD daily for 10 days affected my quality of sleep.

How Does CBD Affect Sleep?

During the first two nights of taking CBD I felt a bit more sleepy but still woke up at least once in the middle of the night. Then the third night I went to bed and woke up in the morning. I was beside myself that I slept all night. From this third night until the tenth night, I continued to sleep through the night without waking up around 3 a.m. as I usually do.

The fun ended when the eleventh night, the first night without taking the CBD, when I woke up in the middle of the night. I was a little sad to wake up, but luckily I was able to fall asleep shortly after waking up. I was sleeping soundly while taking the CBD capsules at night, but started waking up again soon after quitting.

The science behind CBD and sleep

CBD is processed by our endocannabinoid system. A study from the US National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health explained that “members of the endocannabinoid family are involved in controlling sleep.” The endocannabinoid system is one of the neuromodulatory (neuron-based) systems in our brain. Our neuromodulatory systems are the basis of our cognitive function. The endocannabinoid system is specifically responsible for processing endocannabinoids (chemical compounds that carry signals between neurotransmitters). It is part of several systems in our body, including the central nervous system, which influences cognitive behavior.

Since CBD is processed by the same system that influences the sleep-wake cycle, it makes sense that taking CBD regularly influences our circadian rhythm. The circadian rhythm is the pattern in which our body processes everything from sleep to digestion over a 24 hour period. So there is a high probability that I will notice a change in my circadian rhythm due to the regular intake of 25 mg of CBD.

When it comes to the quality of my sleep, CBD has improved a lot, so it definitely stays in my bedtime routine. While these are my results, be aware that everyone’s body will react differently to CBD.
