How Farke’s instant sacking unfolded after Norwich win at Brentford – The Athletic

It was classic Daniel Farke. He remained calm, composed and realistic. Everything came with a smile. A winning smile after a premier league victory, nothing less.

Saturday’s 2-1 win at Brentford was surely the sign of life City of NorwichHad the faith and patience of their longtime head coach over the first three months of the season been deserved?

This illusion lasted a few minutes. After completing his post-match press conference duties at the Brentford Community Stadium, Farke was informed that he and his coaching staff were being made redundant. All they had was some time to let their families know before the news broke.

After four years and five months and 208 games in the role, the decision fell unexpectedly for Farke – just hours after Norwich fans sang his name with his side 2-0 against fellow promoted Brentford. Even less time since he stood before the 1,750 traveling supporters, giving them the festive “Olés” they had come to love after each of his previous 86 wins.

Assistant head coach Edmund Riemer and first-team coach Christopher John stood at the edge of the technical area during these celebrations, watching. Alongside them, performance chief Chris Domogalla threw a punch. As the players returned to the tunnel, they all shared huge relieved hugs and beamed wide smiles.

This trio was also sacked. All had been granted significantly improved four-year contracts over the summer, following a second promotion as league title winners in three seasons. Norwich will now agree compensation, which, in Farke’s terms at least, will cost them a seven-figure sum.
