NordicTrack Adjustable Dumbbell Review

First, for the elephant in the weight room: yes, at over $400, there’s no denying that this is an expensive set of dumbbells. But it’s not just one set, it’s 10 sets in a, because each of the dumbbells you get in a NordicTrack iSelect Adjustable Dumbbell Set can be set to weigh 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, or 50 pounds.

If you were buying 10 pairs of individual dumbbells in each of these weights, you’d actually be paying more than the price of those weights if you were buying a half-decent set, and you should also have space to accommodate all 10 pairs of said weights and their total of 550 pounds, as opposed to the 100 pounds of this smart weight set.

Now for the other caveat you might have here: yes, there are several options for decent adjustable dumbbells that cost less than these while still offering the same five-pound increments between minimum and maximum weights of five and 50 pounds. But do you really want to settle for decency when investing in what may be the only set of weights you’ll ever need?

NordicTrack Adjustable Dumbbells

Having used several different brands of adjustable dumbbells over the years, I can say it’s a big blow to workout flow when a weight gets stuck coming out of its rack, forcing you to put a dumbbell down in order to ‘use both hands to release the other. The same is true when a weight comes out of the rack with the wrong number of plates on it and needs to be reinstalled in position, reset, and then retrieved. Small issues overall, but they throw me off balance, break the rhythm, and more times than I care to admit, led me to simply quit a workout early in frustration.

With these Alexa-enabled smart weights, there’s no need to fumble with the handle to twist it to the right weight; instead there are simply commands like: “Alexa, set the weight to 45 pounds!” or “Alexa, add 10 pounds of weight!” or “Alexa, adjust the weight on the curls!” or, of course, “Alexa, play ‘Eye of the Tiger!'” so I can get a real training in progress.

Beyond the ease of adjusting the weights via voice control, there’s also the ease with which these weights go up and back to their cradles, which, as noted, is actually a big deal. For things like interval training or joining a planned workout routine, which you can do live or pre-recorded thanks to NordicTrack’s partnership with iFIT, weights that adjust quickly and come out easily are key. .

You can of course also adjust the weight of these dumbbells via a dial and you certainly don’t have to use them in tandem with a fitness instructor’s prescribed regimen, but if you’re looking to work smarter, not harder, then … you’ I’m missing the point: work smarter and Stronger.
