PUMA x Butter Goods Basket & Slipstream Release Date

Australian skate label Butter Goods has teamed up with PUMA for a nostalgic collection of high-profile footwear and apparel inspired by sports advertising from the late 90s and early 2000s. Butter Goods co-founders Garth Mariano and Matt Evans appeared around this time and remember its aesthetic vividly. “The late 90s / early 2000s [were] full of bright colors, loose fits and technical fabrics and finishes, ”says Mariano. “[We’ve mixed] this influence with a toned back, classic styles too.

Butter Goods and PUMA’s offerings revolve around four styles of collaborative shoes: two versions of the Basket and two styles of the Slipstream. The former is available in unique blue and orange corduroy colourways, while the latter is featured in crisp white or black leather, both trimmed with green details. The clothing collection is undeniably large, with standout pieces including corduroy track tops and pants in emerald green and cream. Apart from these kits, there are also sweatshirts, sweatpants, graphic T-shirts and polo shirts all embellished with retro designs.

“Our designs and skateboarding in general are heavily influenced by ’90s sportswear, [so] stylistically, it was pretty easy to tie together, ”notes Evans. “Since PUMA doesn’t have a skate program, it was fun to reinterpret things through this lens.”

The Butter Goods x PUMA collection will be released via the PUMA Online Shop come September 4th.
