Norma, please tell us a bit about yourself, your family, and how you have been blessed with the Old Canal Laundromat in Newcomerstown?

“My husband and I reside in Columbus and have four adult children, seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild. I have owned a cleaning business in the Columbus area for over 30 years. My company specializes in commercial cleaning services such as businesses and offices. My husband, David, is a retired military veteran with 25 years of service. We work seven days a week, so we love holidays because it’s nice to take a break from cleaning and enjoy the free time. Sometimes we even manage to catch the occasional movie in a theater, and that’s a treat too.

“I have a niece residing in Newcomerstown, and the family gathered in the village for the Christmas holidays last Christmas Eve, and I shared that I would like to own and operate a laundromat. My niece has immediately said there was one in Newcomerstown that has been closed for two years and may be for sale. I went to the location on Christmas Day and told my husband that would be my laundromat. We called Mayor Cadle’s office and the police station to ask for the owner’s name and contact information, after contacting them we were pleased to learn that they had plans to close completely but were happy to tell us about our interest in the laundromat. It was a whirlwind experience, but God certainly blessed us to find this new business during the 2021 Christmas season. We finalized the details on January 7, opened on March 5, and decided that the name would remain the same due to the history of the canal that runs through Newcomerstown as well as the revitalizing vibe we feel loc ally. It’s exciting, and we hope to be part of this movement. My long-term goals include eventually purchasing and operating more laundromats once we retire from our cleaning business. »

What kind of services does Old Canal Laundromat provide to area residents?

“First of all, we are a full-service laundromat. Our facilities are very clean and the building is safe and secure as we have several security cameras installed around the premises. We want our customers to feel comfortable when they are here.

“We have plenty of washing and drying options, as well as heavy-duty options available for those who may have washing machines at home but want to bring bulky items such as rugs, comforters and blankets. We offer free drying on Fridays, and we’re available Fridays and Sundays to take care of your laundry needs. Just call 614-381-0029 a few days ahead, then drop off your laundry. laundry and return to freshly washed and dried clothes.A large flat-screen TV and free Wi-Fi are offered to our guests using the laundromat. There is also plenty of seating, including comfy armchairs, and an atmosphere warm.

“We believe our services are convenient and crucial to the Newcomerstown community as Old Canal Laundromat is suitable for busy families who may not have time to do all the laundry their family generates at once, and can find a better and faster laundromat save money due to employment, attend their children’s extracurricular activities and more.We are also here for seniors who need a helping hand with laundry or anyone else who may need help, whether temporary or ongoing. In addition, we have customers who have chosen to save on their utility bills, even though they may have machines running. Working condition at home Overall, doing the laundry chore every week isn’t necessarily fun, but at Old Canal Laundromat we make it more functional and certainly more comfortable.

What would you like to highlight for us?

“We love Newcomerstown, our customers and the general hometown friendliness that has been extended to us. Supporting other local businesses is especially important to us, and we’ve been around and visited and shopped locally. This is a community that my husband and I would like to move to one day.

“Weekends are spent in the village and instead of dreading the road to Columbus, we look forward to coming here as we feel relaxed and refreshed by the pace and charm of Newcomerstown. I even printed out pictures of Old Main Street, Canal, I currently have a quilt being created to hang in the Old Canal Laundromat featuring the community I fell in love with.

“Having owned our cleaning business, we are very customer oriented and have a suggestion box available in the laundromat for customers to share tips, ideas and more. We appreciate any feedback you may have to improve our services, and also enjoy the wonderful ratings it is thanks to you that we can keep the laundry open and you are very much appreciated.

“Another exciting news is that we have just ordered a brand new 50 pound heavy duty washer and are planning to purchase other new machines in the near future. We want to meet your needs and provide more conveniences to as we continue to grow in the community.

Please stop by and check with us, or call 614-381-0029, and we can schedule a time to meet. We love meeting the locals and look forward to becoming more active in Newcomerstown. Now that spring has arrived, I can’t wait to plant some flowers and really spruce up the exterior of our business.”
