Topps sold to fanatics


Online sports retailer Fanatics is set to acquire the legendary Topps trading card company. News of the deal broke Monday evening via CNBC and an official announcement is expected on Tuesday January 4th. Specific terms of the deal were not yet available, according to the report, but sources estimated the deal is valued at around $ 500 million and will only include the Topps name and the sports and entertainment division. . The company’s line of candy and gift cards would not be included in the acquisition.

Fanatics’ decision to acquire Topps comes as no surprise to those watching the sports memorabilia and licensing industry.
